Novus Nexum Labs delivers sovereign, compliant, and profitable AI infrastructure for regulated markets. We designed this platform from the inside out, starting where the compliance obligations are sharpest and building backward from there.
Our Story
nnLabs was founded by two interventional nephrologists and a field engineer who saw the same problem from different angles.
Data was leaving clinical workflows without a clear record of where it went. Legal teams were correcting AI output before it shipped and refusing to sign off on what remained. The tools available were not built for that environment.
Oilfield operators needed cross-asset reasoning inside their own perimeter, not inside a vendor cloud. The AI tools being offered to them were built for someone else’s risk tolerance. The compliance retrofits were visible and inadequate.
Regulated organizations were adopting AI tools built for someone else’s risk tolerance. So we built one that was designed for theirs. V-Stela is the result: a sovereign gateway that logs every call, checks every policy, and keeps execution inside the customer perimeter.
Our Mission
Meet the Team
Three founders. Three disciplines. One shared observation about what regulated organizations actually need from AI infrastructure.
Jan Tawakol, MD
Jan is an interventional nephrologist and the founder of Plessen Healthcare LLC in St. Croix, the first CMS-certified surgical center in a US territory. He built nnLabs from a direct observation: regulated clinical environments were adopting AI tools that could not meet the evidentiary standards those environments require. He leads the company’s strategic direction and clinical design partnerships.
Daniel Hill
Daniel is a field engineer who designed the runtime, orchestration, inference, and rendering layers of the V-Stela platform. He has built for regulated industries from the start, which means the architecture reflects actual deployment constraints rather than being retrofitted for them after the fact. He leads the engineering team and oversees all design partner integrations.
Tasnim Khan, MD
Tasnim is an interventional nephrologist who co-authored the nnLabs HIPAA compliance pathway. She brings the clinical workflow depth that makes the firm’s compliance architecture practical rather than theoretical. Her work ensures that what we build performs under real ambulatory and acute care conditions, not just in demonstration environments.
V-Stela operates across six regulatory profiles today: HIPAA, HITRUST, ISO 20022, GDPR, the EU AI Act, and DORA. Every call is signed. Every call is logged. Every log is something an operator can hand to a regulator.
